Lodging Information

Attendees at the 2009 NMC Summer Conference will stay at the Portola Hotel & Spa, overlooking Monterey Bay and directly on the Old Fisherman's Wharf, and conveniently located to many of the downtown attractions and restaurants.

All conference events will take place at the Portola Hotel & Spa and the Monterey Conference Center.

Special room rates of $185 (using the Internet/Passkey Reservations) or $195 (using Telephone/Non-Passkey Reservations) for single/double occupancy have been secured for meeting attendees at the 2009 NMC Summer Conference staying at the Portola Hotel & Spa. There is a $30 charge for each additional person per night. Children staying in the same room under 18 years of age are free.

Make your hotel reservation at the Portola Hotel & Spa using the online Passkey reservation link, and receive a discounted room rate of $185.

When making your hotel reservation please be sure to mention that you are with the "NMC" or "New Media Consortium" group to receive the special rates. To ensure the special rates and room availability, please make your hotel reservation no later than Sunday, May 10.

Portola Hotel & Spa - Reservation/Cancellation Policy

All hotel reservations require a one-night room rate deposit at the time of booking. T

he following deposit and cancellation charges apply to all hotel reservations - please read carefully!

  • Reservations cancelled prior to Friday, May 8, 2009 will receive a full refund.
  • Reservations cancelled between Friday, May 8, 2009 until Sunday, May 17, 2009 will be charged $95 and refunded the balance of the deposit.
  • Reservations cancelled between Monday, May 18, 2009 and Tuesday, June 2, 2009 will be charged a one night room charge.
  • Reservations cancelled on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 or beyond will be charged for the full length of the reserved stay, unless due to medical emergency or death in the family. Written documentation may be required.
  • Guests arriving after their scheduled date of arrival and departing prior to their scheduled date of departure will also be charged for the full length of their confirmed reservation.

Airlines, Travel and Transportation

Driving directions to the Portola Hotel & Spa.

Parking at the Portola Hotel & Spa is $15 per day for self-parking and $18 per day for valet parking - both with in-and-out privileges.

The Monterey Peninsula Airport is located just four miles from the Portola Hotel. Travel time is less than 10 minutes. Taxi service is approximately $20 each way.

The San Jose International Airport is located 60 miles north of Monterey.

The San Francisco International Airport is located approximately 120 miles north of Monterey.

The Los Angeles International Airport is located approximately 340 miles south of Monterey. 

Monterey Airbus

The Monterey Airbus provides shuttle service for Monterey, San Francisco and San Jose airports to the Portola Hotel & Spa and return. Reservations are recommended. For those who are flying to the NMC Conference, the Monterey Airbus is offering a 5% discount on their shuttle transport from the Monterey, San Jose, and San Francisco airports to/from downtown Monterey. Hertz Rental Car Discounts

NMC has contracted with Hertz Rental Cars to provide a discount for attendees at the conference. Attendees will use the exclusive code CV#045S0002 to take advantage of special rates, which include unlimited mileage. Advance reservations may be placed at 800-654-2240 and are recommended, as cars are subject to availability.  Please note, when reservations are booked, the enclosed rates will be automatically compared to Hertz published rates to ensure attendees receive the best comparable rates.
